Prof.ssa Patrizia Capizzi

Patrizia Capizzi is Associate Professor in Geophysics at the Department of Earth and Marine Sciences of the University of Palermo, Italy (ORCiD https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8750-6105). After obtaining a PhD in Geophysics for the environment and territory at the University of Messina, she worked on the optimization of integrated geophysical methods for the study of hydrogeological and geomorphological problems and for applications in Engineering and Cultural Heritage. He has participated in various research projects: PRIN 2003 Diagnostics with tomographic methods for the study of the vulnerability of buildings and artefacts; FIRB 2005 Reconstruction and valorization of the archaeological landscape in the Mediterranean coastal environment through innovative non-invasive methods; PRIN 2007 Control, protection and management of underground water resources. Innovative contribution of geophysical methods; Level I Seismic Microzonation in various Municipalities of Sicily (OPCM 3907/2010 – Agreement with the Regional Department of Civil Protection); PON 2012 SIGLOD – Intelligent system to support the management and localization of landfills.

Prof. Raffaele Persico

Raffaele Persico is Associate Professor in Geophysics at the Department of Environmental Engineering of the University of Calabria, Italy. Before, he has been Researcher of the Italian National Research Council CNR from 2001 to 2019. His main research interests are in Ground Penetrating Radar data processing, Stepped Frequency GPR Systems, Remote Sensing and TDR probes. He has co-authored about 100 papers on International Journals, plus 4 books, several chapters of books and two Italian Patents. He has been General Chairman of the 13th International Ground Penetrating Radar Conference in 2010, Publication Chair of the 15th Mediterranean Microwave Symposium in 2015 and Vice-Chair of the International Workshop on Advanced Penetrating Radar (IWAGPR) in 2021. He was awarded with the Christiaan Huygens Medal from the European Geoscience Union EGU in 2021. He is associated Editor of International Journals Near Surface Geophysics, Geophysical Prospecting and Sensors. Finally, he has been President of the Italian Association of the Ground Penetrating Radar (Associazione Italiana del Georadar) from 2016 to 2023.

Dott. Pier Matteo Barone

Pier Matteo Barone is an accredited criminalist, professor and consultant in Forensic Science, chair of Forensic Archaeology within the Scene of Crime Working Groups (SoC WG) of ENFSI (European Network of Forensic Science Institutes). He is expert in Forensic Geo-Archaeology with a focus on geophysical prospecting (GPR, in particular), remote sensing, GIS and archaeology applied to crime scene investigations, missing persons and ancient crimes collaborating with several universities (such as CURML Lausanne in Switzerland, Nottingham Trent University in UK, American University of Rome, University of Roma Tre in Italy), institutes (INPEF, in Italy) and national and international police forces. He has been senior lecturer in Forensic Science and director of the Master of Forensic Science program at Nottingham Trent University. He is appointed Crime Scene Adviser by the IUGS Initiative of Forensic Geology and consultant for the ICRC (International Committee of Red Cross). Co-founder of Geoscienze Forensi Italia-Forensic Geoscience Italy and member of ANCRIM (National Association of Criminologists and Criminalists) CIfA (Chartered Institute for Archaeologists) and Conpef (National Coordination of Forensic Experts). In 2017, 2018, and 2023 he won the Italian Investigation & Forensic Award for Excellence in Forensic Archaeology and Innovation Technology and is a member of the Management Council of the Italian Association of GPR. He is member of the International Response Team – Blake Emergency Archaeology and Anthropology Services. He has published more than one hundred books and articles in mainly international and peer-reviewed journals and is on the Editorial Board of several international journals.

Prof. Fabrizio Frezza

Fabrizio Frezza achieved his degree in Electronic Engineering (summa cum laude) in 1986 and his Ph.D. in applied electromagnetics and electrophysical sciences in 1991 at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. In 1986 he started his activity at the Department of Electronics of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, where he has been Researche in Electromagnetic Fields from 1990 to 1998, appointed Professor from 1994 to 1998, associate Professor from 1998 ton 2004 and full Professor from 2005.
His research activity has been developed within the topics of waveguides, antennas and electromagnetic resonators; mathematical and numerical methods, electromagnetic scattering, optics, free electromagnetic propagation, warming up of thermonuclear plasms, anisotropic materials, artificial materials and metamaterials, plasmonic resonance, biomedical applications, cultural and natural heritage applications, application of AI to sensing and diagnostics, applications of the magnetic resonance, electrical transmission lines, electromagnetic compatibility, spettroscopy, THz applications, technological transfer, history of the science and of the technology. Fabrizio Frezza is member of the Sigma Xi and is Senior Member of IEEE, OSA and URSI. He is moreover Member of the Association “The Square of the Radio” (Quadrato della Radio).
